Coming Soon: Left Behind

1798513_594595973940397_2139368986_nWhen I became a Christian in the late 90s, the Left Behind books were one of the biggest things happening in the Christian book market. The main concept behind it – that the rapture happened and all the Christians were taken up to heaven while everyone else was “left behind” on earth to deal with what happened next – was difficult for me to get my head around as a young Christian. The theology of the rapture was not something I’d encountered before and it wasn’t taught at my church. I never got far into the books and never saw the original Kirk Cameron movies (I’d hired the first one out once, but never got around to actually watching it). But later this year a new Left Behind movie will hit cinemas, this time starring Nicolas Cage. I’m going to assume that this is going to be a thing that Christians will want to pay attention to. There’s going to be media attention and people are going to be talking about the rapture.

From Formspring: The New Apostolic Church

I received this question over at Formspring and wanted to share the answer with you.

Love what you are doing mate. I was Bombarded by someone from the New Apostolic Church… They sort of believe the same thing only they think they are the only way, my insides turned as if rejecting an organ… What is right? Who are they?

I was unaware of the New Apostolic Church until this question was posted. There’s a New Apostolic Church not far from where I live, but I haven’t had any interaction with them. So I did some research. The following is based on my understanding of their beliefs published on their website (specifically in the document Faith in Life – A Life of Faith: Portrait of a Living Denomination ) with a little bit of Wikipedia to fill in the gaps. If I’ve misrepresented their beliefs, I would encourage correction and discussion.

Won’t They Go To Doggie Heaven?

When the Rapture hits, there’s going to be a lot of loose ends to take care of. Empty houses, vacant jobs, etc. There’s no way of knowing how a sudden removal of all the world’s Christians will affect emergency services – someone’s bound to leave an iron on when they float up to heaven.

But the big question is, what will happen to your pet?

Sword of My Mouth #2

Page 025A couple of months ago, I reviewed the first issue of Sword of My Mouth from IDW. I liked it, but I felt that the price point was a bit too steep for me to keep picking it up. But what if it was cheaper? And I didn’t need to go into the city to hit up my “local” comic shop? What if the whole thing, all 6 issues were put up online, page by page, for the low price of US$6 for the whole thing? Now that’s my kind of value. #2 is completely up, so it’s time for a new review.

Sword of My Mouth #1

SoMM1Her baby isn’t quite right. But in a post-Rapture Detroit, not much is.

So, those pesky Christians are gone. Magic works and those pagans are going ahead with their witchcraft and physical mutations. Angels roam the streets, enforcing martial law. And young, single mother Ella battles loneliness.

Sword of My Mouth is the sequel to the graphic novel Therefore Repent! It’s a six issue miniseries being put out by IDW. My big question for Sword is this: is it going to be exploring Christian issues like Repent did or is it going to go in a new direction?

Comic Review: Therefore Repent!

Therefore Repent!

Therefore Repent!

The Rapture has happened. All of the Christians have floated up into the air, leaving everyone else behind. And to be honest, those who are still here kind of like it that way. But something is happening. Things are changing. Pagan magic is starting to have real and obvious affects. Black winged angels in army gear are patrolling the streets. And dogs are starting to talk. Welcome to the world of Therefore Repent!
