Putting the Word “Christian” in Front of Something Doesn’t Make It Christian

The team over at Blimey Cow have released a new video that I want to add a hearty AMEN to. Take a look at the video and I’ll add some thoughts below.

The Christian Pop Culture Review

A little while back, I submitted a music review to a Christian website for publication. The editor was a bit uncertain about publishing the review because the film clip featured a scantily clad woman dancing. It was not bad enough to earn anything more than a PG rating, but he expressed his concern because he had previously received complaints for recommending secular movies and music. If the song or movie in question contains something questionable, should we as Christian reviewers recommend it? Should we only positively review works that we can 100% get behind? I’m hoping that this is the beginning of the discussion. Really keen to hear what other people have to say.

Update To The Master List

I made a few additions to The Master List – a list here on Pop Culture Christ of popular songs that have references to God, Jesus or to Biblical themes.

Check it out here and keep it coming with suggestions for songs that should be on the list.

The Master List – Need Suggestions!

The song doesn’t have to revolve around Jesus – a single mention will do.

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

A book all about Christian pop culture? That is so my kind of book. Daniel Radosh deals with all kinds interesting topics ranging from Christian theme parks to Christian wrestling organisations.

Alice Cooper: Gimme

Brutal PlanetIt may surprise you that I’m a huge Alice Cooper fan. A fan of a 60 year old rocker wearing black leather and makeup with some Top 40 hits in the 70s and 80s who did a cover version of one of his own songs with British pop band The A-Teens. Yeah, that doesn’t sound like me at all. But strangely enough, I really enjoy his music as well as his presence as a performer. One of these days I hope I have enough money to justify seeing one of his concerts. If he’s still breathing… not that being dead would stop him I guess.

The thing that really gets me going about Alice, the thing that gets me excited, is that he is a Christian.
