Did You See The Body?
In the years we’ve been together, I’ve been sharing my movie critic skills with my wife, Katherine. Using these skills, she’s been excited by (and sometimes disappointed) by her ability to know what’s going to happen in a movie or TV show before it happens, like a cinematic fortune-teller. One thing she recently pointed out that she’d learnt from me is that “they’re not dead unless you see the body.” If the bad guy gets shot and falls off a cliff and is presumed dead, they’re probably still alive. Unless they find the body and get a full autopsy, chances are the bad guy will pop up and cause some trouble when the hero least expects it. If you live in the movie world, don’t trust anyone that anyone is dead unless you see the body.
We Bought A Zoo (2011)
Rated PG
Starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson
Directed by Cameron Crowe
You know the biggest crime this movie commits? There are meerkats in this movie for a grand total of 5 seconds. How dare they? If you’re going to put meerkats in a movie, you better put them in at least every second scene. I don’t care about the lions and tigers and bears (oh my)(yes, I couldn’t resist. Nothing to see here). If you’re going to tempt with meerkats, you better deliver.
And that’s my biggest problem with this movie. That’s the worst criticism I could think of for We Bought A Zoo. And that’s because I really enjoyed it.
Sermon: The Death of Death
Easter sermon preached at St Luke’s Liverpool – 24th of April 2011. Romans 6:1-14 was used to preach on “The Death of Death.”
I Need A Hero
This afternoon I spoke at the lunch time group at Thomas Hassall Anglican College. I spoke on Romans 5:8. Earlier this week I had the chance to hang out with the new year 7’s on their camp. Fun was had by all (well, I can’t speak for everyone, but I had fun).
