Comic Panel of the Week: Amazing X-Men #1
Amazing X-Men #1
W: Jason Aaron
P: Ed McGuinness
No one really dies in the X-Men universe. A dead X-Man is just one event away from a resurrection. Unless you’re Thunderbird. Then you can stay dead. Jean Grey has been on the dead/resurrected roundabout so many times she’s clocked up frequent flyer points. Now it’s Nightcrawler’s turn.
Nightcrawler died during an X-Men event three years ago, there was no question he’d be back one day. And to be honest, death is probably the best thing that could’ve happened to him at the time. After becoming a Roman Catholic priest, no one seemed to know what to do with him.
When we open Amazing X-Men, Nightcrawler is sitting around some kind of Heaven dimension. This might be what passes for Heaven in the Marvel universe but it ain’t the real deal. For one thing, pirate demons aren’t going to attack. For another, Heaven or Hell is the final destination – not a boring yet pretty place where we can come or go.
